Product Description
The Volnay Clos de la Barre 1er Cru is well-defined on the nose with raspberry, cranberry and red plum. It's more withdrawn than the Santenots by comparison. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe dark berry fruit laced with white pepper and bay leaf. With impressive focus on the finish, this fans out nicely and suggests that it will age as well as the Santenots. Excellent. ~ (93) Neal Martin, Vinous 11-1-2022
I like the floral elements here with notes of lavender, thyme, red plums and strawberries. Elegant and delicious, with a medium body and salty herb undertones to the fresh fruit. Fine and supple tannins. Drink or hold. ~ (94) James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 6-29-2023
Pale garnet. Friendly and sweet on palate entry with good structure. Dry finish. It’s all there to enjoy. Though it will never be a blockbuster … thank goodness! Decent length. ~ (16.5) Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com 11-2-2022
Here too there is a hint of herbal tea on the high-toned and equally cool red berry aromas that are trimmed in enough wood to notice. The finer if less powerful middleweight flavors possess excellent delineation on the dusty, moderately austere and linear finish that is presently a bit lean. This is carrying quite a bit of gas and the overall balance isn't easy to assess so this may well age out successfully. ~ (91) Allen Meadows, Burghound 4-10-2023
